She understands her team(s), provides guidance, and creates an environment of trust and adequate communication.
Every day, nurse managers are on a stage where many employees, veterans, and vendors are watching their every move and learning from their behavior. To be a successful role model, nurse managers must exemplify several characteristics. These characteristics include professionalism, integrity, perseverance, empathy, accountability, respect, and positivity.

Professionalism
Ms. Rochelle Hunt-Khan is an effective role model because she consistently demonstrates professionalism, uses proper communication techniques, and listens to coworkers, subordinates, and superiors to grasp these organizational goals while maintaining a positive work environment as she manages Cardiac Cath Lab, Dialysis, GI/Endo, Interventional Radiology, and Uptown/ Downtown Laboratory.

She also exhibits professionalism by treating everyone with dignity, exercising sound judgment, upholding moral principles, refraining from slandering or slandering others, and remaining composed under duress.

Integrity
She consistently exhibits her dedication to the organization's objectives by working hard and in pitch works as a staff nurse or lab tech when the staff needs her.

Perseverance
She is always calm and unwavering in the face of challenges; she never abandons tasks when times are tough and continues to approach them with determination and urgency.

Empathy
She understands her team(s), provides guidance, and creates an environment of trust and adequate communication.
During a crisis, she also demonstrates empathy with visitors. One time, a spouse expressed fear of their husband (the veteran), and she took the time to contact the appropriate people, such as social services, so the spouse could receive the necessary protection.

Accountability
She accepts accountability for her actions and encourages others to follow suit. She never places blame or offers an excuse if she makes a mistake; instead, she owns up to and informs the team of her strategy to correct it.

Respect
Respect is paramount in every situation. This manager consistently treats everyone with respect, including those under her supervision and those who are not (other employees, Veterans, and vendors).

She even shows staff respect when providing constructive criticism by never doing so in public and keeping her feedback focused on the task at hand.

Positivity
Nothing is predictable in management; therefore, you must be ready to handle high-stress circumstances. There is always someone intently observing how a manager navigates obstacles.  Staff will be more likely to overreact or become easily overwhelmed if the manager does.

It's crucial to be positive for your employees since it will inspire them to follow suit.  Ms. Hunt-Khan exemplifies positivity daily.

Despite the constant obstacles she faces daily, such as when a piece of equipment breaks or disappears and a veteran cannot receive care, she remains positive, taking the required action to fix the issue by working with numerous department staff members, calling those departments, and making the necessary trips.
