Instantly, after meeting Tonya, I felt a very strong connection with her. She was so caring, relatable, helpful, and put me at ease with answering my questions and letting me know what to expect the entire time.
As my baby is approaching his first birthday, a flood of memories is hitting me, including my long stay in the hospital before having him and an outstanding nurse I had with me.

I first met Tonya as one of my nurses when I went into the hospital at 32 weeks because my water had broken early. I was very anxious and nervous, to say the least, with this being my first pregnancy and my water breaking early on. I spent over a week in the hospital until I was able to be induced. Instantly, after meeting Tonya, I felt a very strong connection with her. She was so caring, relatable, helpful, and put me at ease with answering my questions and letting me know what to expect the entire time.

She also let me know that she works on the delivery floor and even requested to have me as one of her patients when they set my induction date. This helped tremendously knowing I would have someone there with me that I knew!

Tonya was there every step of the way with me while in labor. She was so reassuring and stayed positive for me. I had two unsuccessful epidurals and before they did a third one, she called a time out to the anesthesiologist and student because she noticed I was not sitting completely straight which is why the other two epidurals did not work. The third epidural finally worked!!

After I had my epidural, I couldn’t feel anything, and she was there telling me when I was having a contraction, counting for me, and telling me when to push and for how long. She definitely took the lead in the delivery room, and I’m so thankful she did because I was able to deliver my son in a record 44 minutes, many thanks to her coaching me. She made sure I was as comfortable as possible throughout, from getting a yoga ball for me to sit on because I was very uncomfortable to getting me a personal fan when I was starting to get sick and hot.

I wasn’t even thinking about pictures after the birth of my son, but she made sure to get pics of me, my son, and his dad which I cherish to this day. She even got pics of us down in the NICU.

I truly don’t think I could have done this without her! My labor went smoother than I could have ever thought possible. I only wish I could have done this DAISY Award for her before now, but life tends to get away from us. She is truly a one-of-a-kind labor and delivery nurse, and I want her to have the recognition she deserves.
