She was so caring and truly concerned and compassionate.
Katie was in the room when my husband was brought up from the emergency room, waiting and preparing for him. She immediately introduced herself with a smile and started assisting him. He is here with a collapsed lung. She immediately got him the pain medication he so needed after the tube insertion. She watched him carefully throughout the night and called his doctor with his stats throughout the night. His bp and heart rate were so low. She was also concerned about him not having any urine output since early that morning. It was almost midnight, and he hadn’t peed but once all day. She scanned his bladder, which was full, and he couldn’t release it. She did an in-and-out catheter with the utmost care and privacy for him that she could after consultation with the doctor. She explained her concerns to me and why she called the doctor. She gave me information as she got it. She was so caring and truly concerned and compassionate. She even made a bed for me. When shift change occurred, she was very thorough in explaining his situation and what we had encountered throughout the night with his stats and his care. She even asked us to feel free to add anything she may have left out! She was amazing!! We have had her for the second night as well, with amazing care and smiles. She makes us feel important and cared for. She makes this experience less stressful. I wish all nurses were like her. She has gone above and beyond with each step of his care. We have been truly blessed to have met her and had her caring for my husband. I hope she does get recognition for this wonderful care.

Note: This is Katie's 2nd DAISY Award!
