AARP DAISY Volunteers
DAISY Volunteer Position Information
Please note that this is a thorough list of responsibilities that could be asked of you, but it is very likely that not all of them will be assigned to you. We ask that you commit to volunteering 1-4 hours a week, depending on the size of the organization, and you will have support from the onsite DAISY Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Nurse (retired)
- Willing to join hospital volunteer group and adhere to hospital policies
- Committed to a minimum 1-year volunteer term
- Flexible and adaptable
- Commitment to the goals, policies, and priorities of AARP and the hospital system
- Ability to clearly articulate and communicate ideas both orally and in writing; encourage open communication and share information
- Willingness to learn (or share existing knowledge about) excel spreadsheets
Key Responsibilities
- Collection of DAISY Nominations, both electronic and paper
- Type up hand-written nominations
- Organize nominations on a spreadsheet
- Blind the nominations for committee selection
- Follow up with the Nurse Manager, HR, or Patient Experience to link the nomination to the correct nurse
- Put together nominations, thank you cards, and pins for each unit’s managers to handout to Nominees
- Send electronic thank you template to the nominators
- Copy nominations for HR files
- Register Honoree on DAISY’s website
- Join hospital volunteer group and follow their protocols as appropriate
- Additional tasks as needed by the DAISY Coordinator
Training
- Orientation
- Technology training, including virtual learning and Volunteer Portal
- Specific platform training as needed
- Other skills training and issue briefings as directed by AARP or hospital system
